The Spirit of Giving

The holiday season is upon us, and now is the perfect time to consider thoughtful ways to give back.  What better way to celebrate the season of giving than through kind gestures that make a positive impact on the lives of animals?

Make a Donation

For the animal lover who has everything, consider making a donation to Clay Humane. Your contribution helps provide lifesaving medical care, and important resources to animals in need.  Make a donation now.

Wish Lists

Purchase wish list items.  Clay Humane and other area animal welfare groups post much needed items on their websites, on their Amazon wish list and Chewy wish lists.  Delivered or dropped off these items are a welcome sight and help more than you could imagine.

Pet Food Donations

Clay Humane maintains a year-round Indigent Food Bank which is especially active during the holiday season.  The Society partners with a local food pantry to assist community family members, both two and four-legged in need.  Consider contributing to the pet food bank or holding a pet food drive yourself.

Host a Third-Party Fundraising Event for Your Favorite Charity

From lemonade stands and car washes to golf tournaments and birthdays, people support causes they're passionate about through their own fundraisers or events. We are grateful for these creative spirits and their generosity! Reach out to your charity and ask the perimeters and how to get started.

Dog Training Classes

Give the gift that keeps on giving this holiday season. Not only can training help pet parents and their pups brush up on important skills like loose leash walking, it’s also a perfect way to bond with their canine companions.  It is important to find a trainer that is reputable and uses positive reinforcement!

We do NOT recommend giving animals as gifts.

The holidays are a popular time for welcoming a new furry friend into your family. There may not be a greater gift for homeless animals than to open your heart and home to them. As they do year-round, animal shelters have thousands of wonderful companions available for adoption.

It is generally not a good idea to bring a new pet home during the holidays.  Holidays are times of increased activity, extra people, decorations, parties, gifts, and excess food.  With everything happening during a holiday, pets can become lost in the normal chaos and become frightened at a time when they are already on edge about coming to a new home.

But whether you are considering a new friend for you or someone else, remember that choosing an animal is a big decision. Instead of bringing home an animal right away, consider putting together and wrapping an “adoption kit.” Fill a box with toys, a bed, a leash, a collar, food, treats and a gift certificate for adoption fees at your local shelter. Then, make an event of visiting the shelter to find your next best friend!

Remember, millions of homeless animals wait for a home each year! Give the gift of life this year and choose to adopt!
