Notice To Members 2024

The Board of Directors of the Clay County Humane Society is charged under the by-laws with direction and management of the affairs of the Society. The Board establishes the policies of the Society, approves budgets, and reviews actions and programs. All Directors serve in a non-salaried, volunteer capacity for two year terms and are eligible for re-election.

VIRTUAL ANNUAL MEETING

February 22, 2024 at 3pm

The Nominating Committee is pleased to announce the following candidates for election as Directors of the Clay County Humane Society.

INCUMBENTS

  • Lisa Lemen—Past Director of Member Relations for a local credit union with decades of banking experience. Lisa has previously served as board president and currently serves as treasurer. She is focused on strengthening the Society’s many worthwhile programs through fundraising and special events.
  • Linda Lake—Purchasing Supervisor for Seminole Electric Cooperative and has held many board positions for the Institute for Supply Management on a local and district level. Linda is the committee chair for the Society’s annual "Hogs for Dogs" motorcycle charity ride held in the spring. She is a firm believer in giving back to the community.
  • Doug Havens—Retired from the U.S. Navy, he has served as both a member and chairman of various boards during his military career. Doug was a member of management for Lowe's, Inc. and volunteered for the Rota Animal Welfare League in Spain. There, he assisted in raising money to expand kennel capacity and maintain necessary supplies to house and provide for the animals. Doug is a contractor for the U.S. Navy at NAS Jax and serves as the Orange Park Country Club Neighborhood Watch Chairman. He is currently the Society’s board president and recently added a rescue pup named “Maddie” to his family.
  • Mary Fortson — A retired clinical nurse manager for Community Hospice of Northeast Florida in St. Johns County. Her many years of experience and love of teaching led her to this worthwhile occupation. She serves as the Event Chairman for the Great 100 Nurses of Northeast Florida which is a non-profit organization whose mission is to bring recognition to the nursing profession. She is a dedicated and proud rotary member and has served on various committees. Mary has a true affection for horses as well as all four-legged creatures and continually promotes animal welfare throughout the community.

The annual business meeting will be held virtually on February 22, 2024. While no nominations will be taken during the meeting, an active member of the Society in good standing may mail in additional nominations. These nominations must be accompanied by written acceptance of the nominee and post dated by December 30, 2023.

To request a ballot, please email cchs@clayhumane.org. Completed ballots must be returned by email no later than January 19, 2024.
