| ![]() ![]() Don't Allow Veterinary Board to Restrict Microchipping for Pets What would you do if you lost your pet? Microchipping is a great tool to help reunite lost pets with their owners, especially in a state like Florida that is prone to numerous disasters like hurricanes and wildfires. Microchip identification is a vital tool for disaster preparation and response -- not only for pet owners, but also for the animal control and animal sheltering fields. At its upcoming meeting on March 18, the Florida State Board of Veterinary Medicine will consider a rule to restrict who can perform microchipping procedures to veterinarians in permitted veterinary establishments. There is no exception for animal sheltering organizations or disaster response situations. The Humane Society of the United States is deeply concerned that such a restriction will severely limit the use of microchip technology and negatively impact animal sheltering and welfare in Florida. TAKE ACTION Please send a message right now to the Florida State Board of Veterinary Medicine and urge them to unequivocally protect the ability of animal rescue and sheltering organizations to use this life-saving technology to its fullest. Not only will this protect shelters' ability to microchip pets, it will help combat animal homelessness, reduce shelter costs and euthanasia and reunite lost pets with their families. Thank you for
taking action on behalf of Florida's pets. ______________________________ Amendment 10 passed! The initiative called for a statewide ban on the practice of confining pregnant pigs in gestation crates. Congratulations and Thank you for all of you who worked toward making this possible - and thank you Florida voters!
